Measurable — Define Success Criteria

Measurable criteria include quantitative targets (word counts, number of items, data points), quality benchmarks (reading level, technical depth), and structural requirements (sections, format, inclusions). This dimension turns subjective “good enough” into objective “meets specification.”

Achievable — Set Realistic Scope
Ensure the task is within the AI’s capabilities and your context. Achievable means acknowledging what the AI can and cannot do: it can draft content but cannot verify real-time data; it can structure analysis but cannot access your internal databases. This dimension also sets realistic scope — asking for a 50-page report in a single prompt is not achievable, but a 2-page executive summary is.

Time-bound — Set the Timeline
Provide deadline context, urgency signals, and temporal framing. A draft needed for a meeting in 2 hours should be more concise and action-ready than one for a project due next quarter. Time context also helps the AI prioritize completeness versus speed.
